Legislation to authorize construction of Enbridge Legacy Line Three made it through a key committee hearing this week in the Minnesota House.
The bill is sponsored by Representative Dan Fabian, of Roseau, calling for the replacement of the line, laid by the former Lakehead Pipeline Company, through the listening area and across Northern Minnesota in the 1960′s.
In testimony Tuesday before the House Job Growth and Energy Affordability Committee; Fabian said the pipeline; ordered to be replaced during the Obama Administration; has been “vetted extensively through the state’s regulatory process” – demanding the State Public Utility Commission, without further delay, grant a Certificate of Need for the project.
In Northwestern Minnesota there is strong support for the replacement project; which Fabian says would sustain good paying jobs, generate tax and commerce revenue and ensure the future of oil transport.
The measure must now be matched to companion legislation in the Minnesota Senate, with News Director Key Teeters talking later this morning to District One Senator Mark Johnson about the measure’s chances as the committee process moves forward.
