Local Lawmakers Put Names on School Safety Measure

Local Lawmakers have put their names to a new School Safety Measure unveiled yesterday in the Minnesota House.

Representatives Dan Fabian and Debra Kiel are among those in support of the Legislative package that includes hiring more school resource officers, student counselors and mental health professionals along with funding building security upgrades.

The $50 million proposal is twice what the governor has proposed and will consolidate several bills now in the committee process.

A retired teacher in the Roseau School District, Fabian called the measure “smart,” providing resources and flexibility, saying the needs of rural districts may be drastically different than large suburban and city schools.
