United States Defense officials have identified a Coalition Soldier killed in Syria Friday as a native of Northern Minnesota. Master Sgt. Jonathan Dunbar, 36, died after an IED exploded near his patrol.
He had been assigned to US Army Special Operations Command, Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. Sgt. Dunbar was born in International Falls, he graduated from John B. Connaly High School in Austin, Texas and joined the Army in 2005.
Dunbar had earned several awards and commendations, including the Bronze Star. A U.K. Soldier also died in the attack, 5 others were injured.
