A Waite Park millionaire who testified before a state House committee earlier this week is drawing a lot of attention after he admitted he received food stamps for over a year in order to prove that not everyone who gets the aid needs it.
Governor Dayton weighed in saying this doesn’t necessarily represent a flaw in the system.
“He finagled the system, — we’re talking about hundreds of millions of people that are on these programs and they found one person who figured out how to game the system. It’s not constructive, are there other people who are gaming the system? Sure. the questions is: are you going to make public policy based on those anecdotes?”
The man who testified said he received about $300 a month in food stamps and claims he donated an equivalent amount to charity.
