Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Sat., April 21, Our Savior’s Lutheran Church of Thief Lake, near Middle River with Pastor Bob Dahlen officiating. Visitation will be after 6 P.M. Fri. with a 7 P.M. prayer service at Collins Funeral Chapel in Middle River. Burial will be in Our Savior’s Church Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Middle River American Legion Post #444.
James Odell Avron, the son of the late Odin and Martha (Wettestad) Avron, was born on January 13, 1952, at Roseau, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church of Thief Lake, near Middle River, and was a life-long member there. He attended grade school at Gatzke and high school at Middle River. Jim served with the U. S. Army from September 1973 until discharge in September 1976. He then returned to the family farm and was employed by Chanlin Construction in the Twin Cities for a time and later at Polaris in Roseau from 1993 until retirement in 2006. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting deer, bear and trapping He always had a large, beautiful garden. He was a member of the Middle River American Legion Post #444 of Middle River and of the Sons of Norway, being especially proud of his Norwegian heritage. Jim visited Norway six times and spoke Norwegian fluently. He passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday morning, April 15, 2018, at the age of 66 years, 3 months and 2 days.
He is survived by his sisters and brother: Renie Kezar of Thief River Falls, Gordon (Judy) Avron, of Contoocook, New Hampshire and Susan Brown of Strathcona, Minnesota; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, many special cousins, relatives and wonderful friends and neighbors.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Odin and Martha and a sister: Betty Zolondek.
