Governor Mark Dayton has ordered flags to half staff today, in tribute to Peace Officers across the state who’ve lost their lives in the line of duty.
Flags will fly at half staff over government buildings from sunrise to sunset on this Peace Officers Memorial day during Police Week across the Nation.
In the immediate listening area; we remember today – Solway Police Constable Brian Heikkila; Beltrami County Deputies James Wilson and Norman Helmer; East Grand Forks Police Officer Kenneth Olson; Hallock Police Chief Deo Waldron; Mahnomen County Deputy Christopher Dewey; Nashwauk Police Marshall August Kokko, Roseau County Deputy Richard Magnuson; shot to death by a murder suspect in August of 1978. Thief River Falls Police Officer Donald Myers and Police Chief Roy Pederson, as well as two DNR Conservation Officers; Charles Wetsel, stabbed to death near Fosston in 1897 and Grant Coyour killed in a plane crash near Baudette in 1999.
Each name carved; along with more than 21,000 other officers, On the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington D.C.
Also remembered today; Fallen Fargo Police Officer David Moszer and Rollette County Deputy, Colt Allery, who died in the line of duty last year, and whose name was added this week to the Memorial in Washington D.C.
