Remarks concerning staff morale made during this week’s Regular Meeting of the Thief River Falls School Board have prompted a number of comments to our TRF Radio Facebook Page; including an exchange between the speaker, Lincoln High Math Instructor Reid Froiland and School Board Member, Kevin Ballard.
Commenting on the full remarks posted from a link to our Facebook Page; Ballard says, “I reached out to Reid this afternoon and we had a good discussion on steps the board could take to help alleviate the staff’s concerns.”
Froiland follows that comment with his own post; “I want to publicly thank Kevin Ballard for reaching out today. I concur that it was a good discussion. I appreciate his responsiveness and concern.”
Tuesday night Froiland used the “Public Comment” portion of the agenda to voice concerns that staff have been “demoralized” in the months that have followed the resignation and resigning of Activities Director Mike Biermaier. Froiland says staff is “full of fear” wondering whether they will be next to be placed on an improvement plan or given a choice between resigning or being fired based on an “autocracy” run by a select few.
Ultimately, Froiland told the school board it is not up to administration, but up to the Board themselves to “right the ship,” raise morale and lessen micromanagement to restore the processes that have made Thief River Falls a great place to work, and a great place to learn.
