Motorists be advised; tomorrow is the first day of a huge paving and utility replacement project that will close 8th Street in Thief River Falls for much of the summer.
Beginning tomorrow, motorists will need to seek alternate routes; with contractors promising access to North and Northeast Neighborhoods across Long’s Bridge, a two mile detour that includes a mile of gravel, or North of Thief River Falls via the Viking Road, just under 12 miles, but pavement all the way.
Thief River Falls Police will be on sight to help direct traffic as the project gets underway this week. Heavy traffic is expected; especially on the shorter rural route. Motorists are advised to allow extra time for the morning and evening commute.
The project will be in two phases; the first will close 8th Street from Highway #32 to the 8th Street Bridge; The second from the Bridge east to Sherwood Avenue North.
