Marie Ruud was born November 16, 1937 at home in Marshall County, MN, the daughter of Herman and Alice (Johnson) Ruud. She attended school at Gatzke, MN, and Middle River High School.
On November 25, 1955, Marie was united in marriage to Virgil Sorenson in Gatzke, MN. To this union five children were born, Avis, Dennis, Delano, Virginia, and Marlan. The couple lived in Gatzke and Brooks for a short time, and in the fall of 1967 they moved to the Sorenson Family farm in Garnes Township. In 2008 Marie moved to Oklee, MN, where she currently resided.
She held employment as a cook at several café’s in the area, as a nursing assistant with several nursing homes, and was currently working in the kitchen at the Oklee High School.
Marie enjoyed sewing, crocheting, reading, and baking (donuts and lefse). She most especially enjoyed spending time with her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids and attending their activities.
She is survived by children, Avis (Bill) Kennel, Warroad, MN, Virginia Berns, Oklee, MN and Marlan (Lisa) Sorenson, Plummer, MN; grandchildren, Bryce (Jen) Marquis, Benji (Mandy) Marquis, Jake (Bri) Kennel, Jess (Josh) Dart, Anne (Greg) Haftings, Mcaulli (Dillon) Berns, Madison Berns, Makay Berns, Brenden (Michelle) Casavan, Michaela (Kevin) Longtin, Wyatt (Leah) Casavan, and Phillip Sorenson; great-grandchildren, Rudy, Sarah, Lauren, Michelle, Landon, Steele, Ruger, Rex, Isaiah, Dylan, Ethan, Aspen, Orin, Patrick, and Kylie; great great-grandchildren, Emmy, Abbey, and Eli; brother, Roger Ruud of Eldorado Springs, MO; sisters-in-law, Cindi Axness, Webster, SD, Corlan Kleinschmidt of Oklee, MN, Janice Melvie of Thief River Falls, MN, and Wavell Sorenson of Plummer, MN; special aunt, Arlette Ruud of Gatzke, MN; friend, Geraldine Valle of Fosston, MN; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband Virgil on March 4, 2006; twin sons, Dennis and Delano; her parents, Herman and Alice Ruud; brother, Eugene Ruud; brothers-in-law, Charles Magnell, Bob Kleinschmidt, Lloyd Sorenson, Kermit Sorenson, and Earl Melvie; and nephew, Jason Magnell.
