Sentencing is scheduled tomorrow in the case of a Red Lake Falls man, who’s pled guilty to amended charges in another Red Lake County pornography case.
Steven DeHaan, 57, entered the guilty plea earlier this year as part of a plea agreement, admitting to one count of Possession of Pornographic Work Involving Minors.
According to court records, the case was initiated by the State Bureau of Criminal Apprehension last September based on the work of a special crimes division; which had discovered a data file containing suspected child pornography on a peer-to-peer sharing network with a computer IP Address in Red Lake Falls.
Last December a local internet provider was issued an administrative subpoena in the case and released information related to specific dates and times; the subscriber Steven DeHaan; and the address of a home on Highway #32 South in Red Lake Falls.
That resulted in the execution of a search warrant at the DeHaan Residence last December and the recovery of a computer and tablet containing saved and deleted videos; including disturbing images of two children identified through the Child Victim Unit of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
In March, DeHaan pled guilty to an amended possession charge, with District Judge Tamara Yan ordering Psychosexual and Presentence Investigations with sentencing scheduled Wednesday in Red Lake Falls.
Although it is not illegal to view or possess pornography involving adults, it is a felony to possess any work involving minors.
Just last week an Oklee area man; Robert Furnald, was sentenced on similar charges in an unrelated case.
