The Summer Meals Program offers FREE lunch Monday through Friday all summer long, rain or shine, for kids ages 18 years and younger; adult meals are $4.00. Serving locations and times are as follows: 11:30-12:15 at Northrop Park, 11:45-12:15 at Lion’s Park, 12:00-12:20 at Challenger Elementary, and 11:00-11:20 at the ALC- Monday through Thursday only.

The Newfolden Farmer’s Market is open on Mondays from 4-7pm through September 10th, south of the Newfolden Co-op. They are looking for vendors with homegrown or handmade items only. Bring your own change and tables, or you can sell from a trailer or back of a pick-up. The minimum price listing is available in the entryway of the Newfolden Community Center. The cost is $5 per vendor per week; we use the honor system, please put your payment in an envelope marked Farmer’s Market and drop in the slot in the entry of the community center. Roseau County, along with Northwest Minnesota Household Hazardous Waste, will be conducting a WASTE PESTICIDE collection on Tuesday, July 10th from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Northern Resources Coop at 1504 Center St. West in Roseau. All Roseau county farmers, homeowners and farm related businesses will be able to dispose of up to 300 pounds of old or unused pesticides and herbicides at this event; waste pesticides ONLY, no rinse water, fuels or empty containers. The Thief River Falls Community Theater is celebrating their 23rd season with the third Summer Theater Production for your enjoyment. “Willy Wonka Kids” is a delicious kids’ show and will be presented from Wednesday, July 11th through Friday, July 13th. All performances are at 7pm at the NCTC Theater, with tickets available at Digi-Key, and Pennington Square and Main. Tickets will be sold nightly at the door if seating is available.

Road construction has begun on the Thompson Forest Road between Clear River tower and the Wobbles Forest road south of Warroad, this section of the road will be closed to the public. As construction is scheduled to be completed around Labor Day, this may affect your July blueberry picking route in the upcoming months.
It’s time to think about getting your entries ready for the Pennington County Fair. Entries for canning and baking, needlework, table settings, sewing, arts and crafts, taxidermy, photography, homemade beer and wine, and wood working will be held from 10am-5pm on July 18th at the Huck Olson Arena in TRF. This is the 7th year for the Children’s Coloring Contest; they can be picked up at Hugo’s and the Times Newspaper. Bring the completed entries to the information booth at the fair before the morning of July 21st. Prizes will be awarded to all who enter.
