Officers responding to a report of a suicidal man armed with a gun were forced to shoot the suspect.
Early Sunday morning, the Grand Forks Police Department reported officers encountered two individuals near the intersection of South 22nd Street and 24th Avenue South around 3:20 yesterday morning. One of the subjects was armed and refused commands. Police say two officers shot and killed the armed person when they refused to drop their weapon.
The officers administered aid to the victim and called Altru paramedics. Names of the victim and the officers have not been released. The officers have been placed on administrative leave.
The Bureau of Criminal Investigation is working on the case.
