The Pennington County Sheriff’s Department today wrapped up their investigation, concerning the “City Hall Brawl;” a verbal altercation that turned physical during a City Council Committee Meeting Tuesday night.
Sheriff Ray Kuznia said this afternoon they have wrapped up the investigation; requested by Mayor Brian Holmer. That report is being sent on to County Attorney Seamus Duffy, who will determine whether charges are warranted in the case.
At least one – and possibly more – City Councilmen were injured during a late afternoon meeting of the Administrative Services/Arenas Committee; when an exchange of words turned into a physical confrontation involving Committee Chair Jerald Brown and Ward #3 Alderman Josh Hagen; ultimately drawing in Councilman Curt Howe and Thief River Falls City Administrator Rodney Otterness.
Also present; Alderman Jason Aarestad, Finance Director Angie Philipp and Arenas Manager Melissa Sletten.
Visit Thief River Falls Executive Director Laura Stengrim had been at the meeting earlier but left before the the fight broke out.
As far as what initiated the incident; we know the on-going debate over a community outdoor pool sparked a heated conversation earlier in the evening, discussion had moved on to Arena Issues when the verbal altercation became physical.
