Just hours after making National Headlines for introducing legislation to protect elections from foreign interference, US Senator Amy Klobuchar will be in Thief River Falls today to discuss a much more local issue; internet broadband access in Pennington County.
Klobuchar is scheduled to meet with local officials in a public session beginning at 9:45am at City Hall; the Historic Soo Line Depot.
This week the USDA announced a 20 million dollar loan to Garden Valley Telephone to improve internet access to subscribers in the listening area, although that will continue to leave pockets of the county without broadband, a continuing problem for many townships in the region.
Following today’s City Hall session; Senator Klobuchar is scheduled to tour Errico Manufacturing, rural Viking, to discuss the shortage of skilled workers in Northwest Minnesota.
As far as election legislation; the Klobuchar measure, called The Secure Elections Act, would make Federal Funding available only to states adopting protections that already apply in Minnesota, including; cyber attack training for elections officials, backup paper ballots and election equipment audits.
