One Dead, Another Injured In Separate Motorcycle Accidents Involving Wildlife

One man died, another was injured in separate motorcycle accidents over the weekend in Northern Minnesota.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol; Alan Gustafson, 54, of Hines, was injured when the 2003 Harley Motorcycle he was riding struck a deer early yesterday afternoon, south of Big Fork in Itasca County.

Gustafson was taken to Bigfork Valley Hospital for treatment of injuries officers at the scene described as non-life threatening.

Earlier in the weekend, a Milaca Area Man lost his life when the 2017 Harley Davidson he was riding struck a moose on Highway 6 in Koochiching County.

Gary Vansickle, 66, was northbound on the highway when he struck the animal just after 1:30 Saturday afternoon. Vansickle was taken to Sanford Hospital, where he died.
Both men were wearing helmets at the time of the accidents, officers say alcohol was *not* a factor in either accident.
