The Summer Meals Program offers FREE lunch Monday through Friday all summer long, rain or shine, for kids ages 18 years and younger; adult meals are $4.00.  Serving locations and times are as follows: 11:30-12:15 at Northrop Park, 11:45-12:15 at Lion’s Park, 12:00-12:20 at Challenger Elementary, and 11:00-11:20 at the ALC- Monday through Thursday only.

There will be a Nutrition Fundraiser from 4-6pm on Wednesday, August 8th at the Karlstad Community Center.  Start off MooseFest with a Potato Klub Supper and a 50/50 drawing at $8 a plate.  The money raised will go towards helping pay for expenses at the Senior Community Center.  For more information contact Ann at 218-436-2400.

Powerful Tools for Caregivers, an educational program for caregivers who are caring for a family member, friend, or neighbor, is a six-week series that meets for 1 ½ hours each Wednesday from 6-7:30pm, starting August 8th and ending September 12th at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls.  This program will help you take care of yourself while caring for an older relative or friend.  Please contact Julie Praska-Moser at 218-686-6228 for more information.

Enjoy the music this summer every Thursday night at 7pm at the Gazebo in the Floyd B. Olson Park.  Entertainment on August 9th will be provided by Lois and Lois.

There will be an Old Time Dance this Thursday, August 9th from 7-10pm with music by Cathy Erickson.  Cathy is challenging you to show up and prove that there are at least 50 dancers left in the Thief River Falls area that need a little exercise and socializing.  Lunch will be served during the band’s break.

The Northwest Minnesota Arts Council is excited to exhibit “Inklings” by Jill Levene of Middle Sister Made, in Warren.  This exhibit is on display until August 26th at the Riverwalk Gallery in East Grand Forks.  You can meet the artist at the Artist’s Reception on Saturday, August 11th, from 1-5pm.  Jill will be joined by Ivy Bailie of Fosston who will be showing her visual art that same day.

The St. Hilaire Lions are holding their annual St. Hilaire Lions Redneck Round-A-Bout Island Park Baja Race on Saturday, August 11th.  The gates open at 10am and the race begins at 3pm at Island Park in St. Hilaire.  Free overnight camping is available in the pits; there will be a tailgater’s area at the race, concessions and a beer garden.

It’s Baja racing like you’ve never seen before, on Saturday, August 11th at the Wagon Wheel Ridge, west of Karlstad.  Registration is at 2pm with the race starting at 3pm.  For more information and to pre-register visit wwreventcenter.com

Thre will be an Open House/80th Birthday Celebration for Pastor Dennis Gray on  Saturday, August 11th from 2-4 pm at the Alma Free Lutheran Church in rural Argyle.

Come out and enjoy the Strathcona Music and Variety Show on Sunday, August 12th at the Strathcona Park.  Church services are at 9am, followed by a parade at 10:30am and dinner at 11am.  The Musical Variety Show begins at 12:30pm so bring your own chair and enjoy the show; there will be concession stands and food available all afternoon.  For more information call 218-781-2812.

The Pennington County Sportsman’s Club is sponsoring a Fall 2018 Firearm Safety Class on Monday, August 13th in the conference room at the Joint Operations Center, 125th Ave. NE, south of Petro Pumper.  Registration on Monday is from 6-6:30pm with the classes on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Monday the 20th running from 6:30-9pm.  Field Day is Saturday, August 18th from 8am-4pm at the Pennington County Sortsman’s Club.  For more information cll 218-791-9808

The DNR and the Friends of Rydell and Glacial Ridge Refuge Association are sponsoring a Monitored Youth Deer Hunt at Rydell National Wildlife Refuge for youth ages 12-15 years.  Fifteen youth will be allowed to participate with a parent, guardian or mentor.  There will be an allowance of 1 deer of either sex taken on the refuge and you must attend a mandatory orientation session to be held on Sunday, October 21st from 10 am – 1 pm.
