The Pennington County Sportsman’s Club is sponsoring a Fall 2018 Firearm Safety Class on Tuesday the 14th, Thursday the 16th, and Monday the 20th, running from 6:30-9pm in the conference room at the Joint Operations Center, 125th Ave. NE, south of Petro Pumper.   Field Day is Saturday, August 18th from 8am-4pm at the Pennington County Sportsman’s Club.  For more information call 218-791-9808.

Celebrate Recovery is a Christ-centered recovery program that meets every Tuesday night at Epiphany Station in Thief River Falls.  This program is for anyone who is dealing with life’s hurts, habits or hang-ups.  The night starts at 6pm with a free meal followed by worship with a teaching or testimony; the night ends in small groups.  The groups currently offered are women’s life issues, addiction and grief and loss; and men’s addictions and life issues.  Nursery is provided, as well as celebration place for elementary aged children. The Student Information Packets for Franklin Middle School students will be ready for parents/guardians to pick up at the school on Wednesday and Thursday, August 15th and 16th.  Because there is confidential data included in the packets, only a parent/guardian may pick up a student’s packet.  Packets may be picked up on these two days from 7:30am-3:45pm.  Call the Franklin office at 681-8813 if you have questions.

Oak Ridge Church will present a “Music Feast” on Thursday, August 16th from 5-7pm at the Gazebo in Floyd B. Olson Park.  The congregation will serve a pulled pork sandwich meal, which includes a Freewill Offering, with proceeds going to their general fund.  Bring a lawn chair, listen to the music in the park and enjoy the fellowship; this event will be cancelled if it rains.  For questions call Joyce at 689-4712.  Oak Ridge Church will also be serving at “Good Old Days” at the Viking Diner on Saturday, August 18th.

The DNR and the Friends of Rydell and Glacial Ridge Refuge Association are sponsoring a Monitored Youth Deer Hunt at Rydell National Wildlife Refuge for youth ages 12-15 years.  Fifteen youth will be allowed to participate with a parent, guardian or mentor.  There will be an allowance of 1 deer of either sex taken on the refuge and you must attend a mandatory orientation session to be held on Sunday, October 21st from 10 am – 1 pm.  Interested youths must apply no later than August 17th and registrations can be completed at any DNR license agent office or online at  For more information go to and click on youth deer hunts or contact Greg Knutsen, Refuge Manager at 218-687-2229.

It’s time for the 11th Annual Backyard BBQ, on Friday, August 11th from 5-8pm at the Eagles Club in Thief River Falls.  The menu includes BBQ ribs, parsley butter potatoes, coleslaw, corn on the cob and more!  The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for a kid’s meal with a hotdog instead of ribs.  If you’re in a hurry they will have a drive-through pick-up area in the cul-de-sac on the east side of the building.  Proceeds will benefit the Prowler Girls Swim Team and the Prowler Girls Hockey Team.

There will be a Pancake Benefit for Ronna Seydel of Badger on Sunday, August 19th from 9:30am-1pm at the Badger Community Center.  They will be serving pancakes, ham, ice cream, strawberries, juice, milk and coffee; a Freewill Offering will be included. Everyone is welcome.  This event is sponsored by the Greenbush-Badger Lions Club.

First Lutheran Church of Middle River will be hosting “Fun in the Sun” on Sunday, August 19th at 11am.  There will be worship outdoors, music, fun, and a picnic-style lunch served following the worship service.  Everyone is welcome to attend.

Bethania Free Lutheran of rural Newfolden will host their annual Pie and Ice Cream Social on Sunday, August 19th at 2:30pm.  Lois and Lois will be singing, everyone is welcome.
