Morris Bergman Hansen, 92, of Newfolden, MN passed away on Thursday August 16, 2018 at North Valley Health Center, Warren, MN
A Memorial Service will be held Monday, September 10, 2018 at 10:30 am at Westaker Free Lutheran Church, Newfolden, MN. Burial will be at Folden Cemetery, rural Newfolden, MN. A fieldstone marker inscribed SMED (Norwegian for blacksmith) was placed by Morris in 2015.
Morris Bergman Hansen was born February 23, 1926 on the family farm in Newfolden Township, Marshall County, MN, the son of Even and Emma (Svendsen) Hansen. He was baptized and confirmed by Reverend Thorvald Myhrer. Morris attended Newfolden School through the 9th grade.
In his younger years he did a lot of cross-country skiing. He was a good, hard-working Norwegian.
He operated the family farm which produced small grains and livestock. He also was a blacksmith, building and rebuilding lots of different “Smed” machinery.
After his retirement, Morris bought 80 acres of woods and continued to cut wood. He even built his own wood splitter when he was 90 years old. Morris trapped a lot of pocket gophers over the years.
Morris was sexton of Folden Cemetery for over 39 years and served on the Newfolden Township Board for 15 years.
He is survived by 3 nieces: Kathleen Schmidt, Mary St. Mary, and Rebecca Burdolski; 2 nephews: David Kohl and Michael Kohl; his Polish nephew: Leonard Blazejewski; 3 great nieces: Beth Burdolski, Hope Burdolski, and Mariah Kohl; 2 great nephews: Jacob Kohl and Dylan Kohl, and many friends and relations.
Preceded in death by parents; 3 sisters: Irene and twins, Ardelle and Ivedelle: and great niece Lisa Burdolski.
