Muriel Peterson, 90, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 07, 2018 at Thief River Care Center in Thief River Falls, MN with her loving family at her side.

Funeral service will be Thursday, September 13, 2018 at 6:00 PM at the Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with Reverend Gary Barrett Officiating.  Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN.

Visitation will be held on Thursday 4-6 PM at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls.

Muriel Rose Peterson was born September 10, 1927 in Thief River Falls, the daughter of Gust A. and Rose E. (Ekstrom) Peterson.  She was baptized November 9, 1927 and confirmed June 2, 1940 at Mission Covenant Church, St. Hilaire, MN.  She grew up and attended country school in Sanders Township, Pennington County, MN and Lincoln High School, graduating in 1945. While in High School she played with the Marching Band. Muriel worked diligently on the farm side by side with her father. She moved into Thief River Falls from the farm in 1963. She worked for Dr. Davidson and Dr. Herber. In November 1969, she moved to Alexandria, MN.  She attended Faribault, MN Vo-Tech in 1971, where Muriel obtained an LPN degree.  In November 1999, she returned to Thief River Falls.

Muriel was also employed at Glacial Ridge Hospital, Glenwood, MN, Douglas County Hospital and Bethany Nursing Home both Alexandria, MN.  She enjoyed music, country side viewing, animals and sports. Muriel played with the community band, and traveled to nursing home’s and church’s with the Trochman Family. In the early years her father played Mandolin, mother played piano and organ and Muriel accompanied them on her saxophone.

Survived by cousins, Shirley Sorvig, Red Lake Falls, MN, Lorraine (Paul) Sjulson, New Braunfels, TX; her faithful friends and caregivers, Don & Deb Mattson and their family; and many other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by father, Gust, November 13, 1965 and mother, Rose, June 30, 1998.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice, Evangelical Free Church, Peter Engelstad Pioneer Village, or the Thief River Falls Care Center.
