Pair Convicted In Federal Court On Charges Related To Red Lake Nation Home Invasion

Two Northwest Minnesota residents were convicted yesterday in Federal Court in Duluth on charges related to a home invasion last November on the Red Lake Nation.

Shanise Ostlund, 29 and Kevin Roberston, 32, were found guilty by a federal jury Wednesday.

Two additional defendants, Derek Paddy and Cheai Clark each pleaded guilty to one count of burglary in the second degree.

The four were accused of kicking in the front door of a home on the Red Lake Nation November 24th, then taking various items from the property. Prosecutors say the altercation followed a “brawl at a local Walmart store,” and claim Ostlund and Robertson had an intended victim in mind – that person escaping the scene by “jumping out of a window.”

US Attorney’s say robberies, home invasions and other crimes involving domestic violence threaten the safety and stability of communities, are “all too common on the Reservation” and will not be tolerated.
This case is the result of an investigation by the FBI, the Red Lake Police Department, and the Bemidji Police Department.
