Regional Airport Awarded More Than $2.5 Million in Grant Funding

The US Department of Transportation has awarded more than $2.5 million in Grant Funding to the Regional Airport, south of Thief River Falls in Rocksbury Township.

The financing; announced yesterday by Congressman Collin Peterson’s office, will be used for apron and taxiway reconstruction and was one of five U.S.D.O.T. airport infrastructure projects funded in the Seventh District.

That includes $1.7 million to the Bemidji Regional Airport Authority for aircraft rescue and firefighting equipment, over $4 million to the city of Detroit Lakes to construct a runway safety area. Just over a million to the City of Long Prairie for runway extension and nearly $1.5 million to the small community of Winsted in south central Minnesota; for runway reconstruction.

Peterson’s Beech Bonanza is a common sight at airports across the District, and the Congressman said yesterday, as a pilot himself, he understands the importance of maintaining “flyer safety” along with transportation options that support commerce and the economy.
