Andrew Skaar, 96, Thief River Falls, MN passed away on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at Thief River care Center, Thief River Falls, MN.Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. John Voelker officiating.  Burial will follow at Park Ridge Cemetery, Norden Township, Pennington County, MN.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Monday, October 1, 2018 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN.  Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Andrew Ordeen Skaar was born on the family farm in Norden Township, Pennington County, MN on January 3, 1922 the son of Ole Andrew and Olga Pauline (Nelson) Skaar.  He was baptized in April of 1922 and confirmed May 30, 1937.  Andy attended City View School and graduated from Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston, MN.

Following school, Andy returned home to farm on the family farm in Norden Township.  He eventually expanded his farming operation and after his brother Leonard’s passing, purchased the family homestead.

Andy was a well-respected grain farmer, a successful businessman, a devout and knowledgeable politician, a beloved family member and a true friend to many.

Andy served six terms in the Minnesota Legislature from 1962 – 1974 and served on many committees while in office.  He was instrumental in getting the Northland Community College established in Thief River Falls as well as the Thief River Falls Regional Airport Terminal.  Andy served on the Norden Township Planning Commission and Township Assessor.  He was a loved and respected member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Survivors include siblings, Faythe Kinnunen of Menagha, MN, Erven (Bette) Skaar of Cambridge, MN and Martha Parsons of Yelm, WA; numerous nieces & nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Oline (Rod) Markine, Thelma (Art) Terrian, Elsie (Robert) Fairbank and Leonard Skaar; brothers-in-law, Harold Kinnunen and Charles Parsons.
