Donald Solberg, 77 of Warroad, MN formerly of Thief River Falls, MN passed away on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Sanford Medical Center, Thief River Falls, MN.

Funeral service will held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 26, 2018 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with Larry Myhrer officiating.  Burial will follow at Ebenezer Cemetery, Mayfield Township, Pennington County, MN.  Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Friday prior to the service.

Donald Garvin Solberg was born on July 16, 1941 in Mayfield Township, Pennington County, MN the son of Garvin and Irene (Swanson) Solberg.  He attended country school and Lincoln High School.  As a young man, he worked for some area farmers, Arctic Cat and drove truck for a while.

Later, for 30 some years, he was employed at Marvin Windows in Warroad, MN where he was fondly called “Papa Smurf” because of his job spraying blue film on window panes, which splattered into his hair and beard.

In July of 1975, Don married Darlene Anderson.  To this union one son, Dominic Carlose was born.  Don and Darlene later divorced.

Don enjoyed hunting, cruising on his motorcycle, strumming his guitar, having coffee and visiting with his friends.  He was a member of ABATE, NRA, Eagle’s Club and the VFW.

Don is survived by his son, Dominic (Luella) Solberg; grandson, Steven; brothers, Russell Solberg and Maynard (Darla) Solberg all of Thief River Falls; sisters, Carol Decker of Sedgwick, KS and Frances Olimb of Minneapolis, MN; nephew, Kirk Olimb; nieces, Debi (Chip) Hutchinson, Diane (Vince) Goebel, Katie (Dustin) Solberg, Rachel (Bryce) Richtsmeier, Jill Solberg, Madison Olimb and Molly Olimb; and many other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, LaVonne; brother-in-law, Dennis Decker and nephew, David Decker.
