Catherine was baptized at the Methodist Church in Thief River Falls, MN. In 1944 Catherine was confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Zion Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, where she also taught Sunday school, sang in the church choir, and was a member of Zion’s ladies group. Catherine also served as president of the Northrup Elementary PTA. Later in life, Catherine became a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls.
On September 19, 1943, Catherine was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Merle Clifford “Kip” Vigness. To that union, three children were born: Sharon, Cathy, and Charles. She resided in Thief River Falls, entering Erskine Pioneer Memorial Care Center in September 2016, where she resided until her death.
Catherine was employed at various businesses in Thief River Falls during her lifetime. She held the management position at Woolworth Candy Counter for some time. From 1944 to 1946, Catherine was employed by the J. C. Penny department store, serving as office bookkeeper. Upon the birth of their first child, Sharon, Catherine became a full-time homemaker until 1957 when she sought employment at the Piggly Wiggly grocery store in the produce department, also holding the position of head cashier in the office through 1964. She began working at Nesland Accounting Service, later known as Winter and Associates, in 1965. She semi-retired in 1989 and fully retired from the work field in 1992. Catherine enjoyed sewing, baking, working in her flower beds, traveling, and camping with her husband.
Catherine is survived by her daughters Sharon Peterson of Thief River Falls and Cathy (Dan) Rominski of Stephen, MN, and son Charles “Chuck” (Wanda) Vigness of Thief River Falls; grandchildren Todd (Michelle) Peterson, Troy (April) Peterson, Shawn (Beth) Rominski, Tawnya (Deon) Wawrzyniak, Alicia (Jared) Langness, Sarah (Ben) Hanan, and Kendra (Mitchell) Martin; great-grandchildren Brittany (Dave) Gulden, Christopher, Ashley, Joshua (Sidney) and Jeremy (Fiancée Rachel Aho) Peterson; Emma, Mason and Henry Rominski; Nikolas, Addysen, Josie and Kynzlie Wawrzyniak. Nephews Jon (Jan) Anton, Jon (Rhonda), David (Patti), Jim (Jody), and Dan (Deb) Vigness.
Preceding her in death was her husband Clifford in 2014; her parents John and Maryetta Anderson; sisters Blanche Anderson and Dorothy Anton; brothers Donald and William “Billy” Anderson; sister-in-law, Lois Vigness; brothers-in-law Hans Anton and Lester Vigness; niece Nancy (Vigness) Hoyhtya and son-in-law Roger R. Peterson.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Thursday, November 1, 2018, at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service on Friday at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 2, 2018, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN, with Rev. Alex Amiot officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.
