Ronald Engen, 87 of Thief River Falls, MN passed away on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND with his loving family at his side.

Funeral service will be held 10:30 AM on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. Ale Tulu and Rev. John Golv officiating.  Burial will be held at the Viking Cemetery near Viking, MN.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN.  Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service.

Ronald Maynard Engen was born October 4, 1931 in rural Argyle, Marshall County, MN the son of William P. and Caroline (Grund) Engen.  He was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Viking, MN.  Ron attended country school, Viking School and Newfolden High School.  He graduated from the University of Minnesota St. Paul Campus in 1949.

On December 30, 1949, Ron was united in marriage to Marie Halvorson at Zion Lutheran Church in Viking, MN.  They made their home in Thief River Falls for a short time before moving to Rockaway, OR where he worked in the lumber industry.  In 1953 they returned to Thief River Falls where Ron worked at Falls Supply for nine years and then worked the remainder of his career at Wilson Bros as Shop Foreman.

Ron enjoyed restoring old cars, hunting, travel and spending time with family.

Ron was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls and served on the Church Board.  He served on the Advisor Board for Bemidji Machine School and the AVTI in Thief River Falls.

Survivors include his loving wife of almost 69 years, Marie of Thief River Falls; children, Jerome (Debra) of Thief River Falls, Renee (Myles) Henney of St. Hilaire, MN and Michael (Nina) Engen of  Plymouth, MN; grandchildren, Lezlie (Jason) LaVoy, Jeremy (Heather) Engen, Jason (Robin) Engen, Brendon Engen, Adam (Jacqueline) Henney, Stephanie Henney, Kayla (Aaron) Molkenthin; great-grandchildren, Emily, Andrew, Sydney, Grant, Ayla, Lucas, Wylie, Sawyer and Reuben; sister-in-law, Eileen Engen of Warren, MN; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Eldor, Paul, Melvin, Clayton; and sisters, Grace, Myrtle, Doris, Eunice and Audrey.
