A Crookston day care was shut down last week, with the owner convicted of malicious punishment of a child.

44 year old Kristin Altepeter was sentenced last week to 10 days house-arrest after allegedly bruising a child’s arm on June 15th. According to court documents, the boy’s parents took him to Riverview Health Emergency Room after noticing the bruises and alerted authorities.

The license for Altepeter’s day care at 413 7th Avenue South, was immediately suspended November 22nd by the Minnesota Department of Human Services.

According to court documents, Altepeter was cited for violations at her day care in 2015. Her license was placed on conditional status for a year. Authorities alleged that Altepeter had failed to maintain complete records for children, was operating over capacity by caring for too many toddlers, failed to provide documentation of monthly fire and storm drills, and crib inspections.

She also pleaded guilty to a child-seat violation in 2006.
