A Thief River Falls man entered a plea this week in Pennington County District Court for Solicitation of a Child.

Jose Cruz plead guilty Monday to Electronic Solicitation of a Child to Engage in Sexual Conduct before District Judge Tamara Yon through an interpreter. Cruz told Judge Yon he did not know his address during the hearing, but said that it was in Thief River Falls.
Judge Yon ordered a Pre-sentence Investigation and ordered Cruz to undergo a Psycho-sexual Evaluation.

According to the criminal complaint, Cruz sent sexually explicit messages to a 15 year old girl May 2nd through social media, saying he wanted to “make love”. Cruz stated in court Monday he never intended to meet with the girl, even though he admitted to driving to a prearranged meeting place.

The maximum penalty is 3 years in prison and a five thousand dollar fine.

A sentencing hearing has been set for February 19th at 12:30 PM.

An interpreter will be present at the hearing.
