A Celebration of Life Visitation in honor of Darlene will be held for her family and friends from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at the VFW in Thief River Falls, MN.
Darlene F. Meyer was born on August 17, 1940 in Red Lake County, MN, the daughter of Henry and Mildred (Ann) Meyer. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls, MN, in 1958.
Following high school Darlene worked as a bookkeeper for Paint and Glass. She also worked for Gordon Bellingrud and Otis Wold at Piggly Wiggly, for Bob Flynn at Northland Village, at Falls Radiator, Hubert’s Outdoor Power, UBC, and spent the last 10 years of her career in accounts receivable at Digi-Key.
In 1958 Darlene was united in marriage to Vernon Dokkin. Together they made their home in Thief River Falls. They were blessed with two children: Dean Allen Dokkin and Kent Wayne Dokkin.
Darlene loved sports – she was on the VFW Traveling Bowling Team and played softball. Every Friday and Saturday night Darlene enjoyed dancing with Vern. Darlene had her own 4-wheeler which she loved to ride.
Darlene was a longtime member of the VFW Auxiliary and the Oak Ridge Lutheran Church.
Darlene is survived by her husband, Vern; son, Kent Dokkin (Carmen Holmes) of Thief River Falls, MN; daughter-in-law, Brenda Dokkin (Trent Collins) of Thief River Falls, MN; grandchildren, Christopher (Mekenzie) Hoff, Jenna (Tyler) Holen, Nick Dokkin, and Sarah Dokkin; great-grandchildren, Talen Dokkin, Shaelynn Dokkin, Sully Holen, and Cayson Hoff; brother, Adolph Meyer of Florida; sister, Gaylene of Tennessee; and close personal friend, Ray (Fawn)Troy of Thief River Falls, MN.
She was preceded in death by her son, Dean Dokkin; her parents; her siblings, Clarence, Louie, LaVerne, Gary, and Minnie.
