Memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. Darrel Cory officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at North Shell Rock Cemetery, Northwood, Iowa.
Judith Helgeland was born on May 2, 1942 in Sioux City, IA the daughter of David and Mildred (Nelson) Helgeland. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith in Sioux City, IA and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Mound, MN.
She graduated Mound High School in 1960, and attended beautician school. Judi worked as a beautician for a few years and also at Nicolette National Bank in Minneapolis.
She moved to Chicago to work for Braniff Airlines for many years. Later she worked for Montgomery Wards and for an advertising agency. While still in Chicago, Judi attended the Cooking and Hospitality Institute to become a Pastry Chef.
Judi moved to Byron, MN to be nearer to family and worked in Rochester at Darby’s Bakery. In 2003 she moved to Thief River Falls. Judi spent much of her free time involved in Community Theatre in Byron and Thief River Falls, appearing in many plays.
Judi loved to sing. She sang in Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Chicago for 25 years, then at Christ Lutheran Church in Byron and Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. At Redeemer, Judi became very involved with making quilts for the graduating high school seniors and was a member of the Red, White & Blue Quilters who made quilts for veterans. She was also a member of the Thief River Falls Quilters Guild, Thief River Falls Community Theatre, and Redeemer Church Choir.
Survivors include brother Rev. Mark Helgeland; sister-in-law Pauline Helgeland; nephew Andrew (Amanda) Helgeland; great-niece Elaina Helgeland and many cousins and friends.
