A Menahga area man is dead following a collision yesterday between a snowmobile and a vehicle.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Jesse Scott Jones, 46, was killed when the southbound 2007 Polaris 440 he was driving ended up going into the northbound traffic lane of Highway 71 in Blueberry Township in Wadena County.
Officials say Jones was in the east ditch, on the northbound side when he attempted to climb the ditch to get to the shoulder. Instead, he entered the lane of traffic, striking a 2000 Pontiac Bonneville driven by Andrew John Vaverek, 30, of Browerville, who suffered no apparent injury.
Officials say Jones was wearing a helmet and that Vaverek was wearing his seat-belt at the time of the accident, reported just after 7AM.
Jones was pronounced dead at the scene. Road conditions were listed as dry.
Officials say alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
