Keith Ranum, 65, of Viking, MN passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at Vibra Hospital in Fargo, ND with his loving family at his side.
The funeral service to celebrate Keith’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 28, 2019 at New Hope Lutheran Church in Newfolden, MN. Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM with a 5:00 PM prayer service on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service on Monday at New Hope Lutheran Church in Newfolden.
Keith Daryl Ranum was born on August 10, 1953 in Thief River Falls, MN the son of Lloyd and Elaine (Johnson) Ranum. Keith went to Viking Elementary and graduated high school from Marshall County Central in 1971.
Keith married Karen Swan on November 10, 1973. They had three loving sons and lived near Newfolden, MN until building their home north of Viking, MN.
At the age of sixteen, Keith went to work at Peterson-Beddick Turkey Farm. Following graduation from high school, he worked for Peterson-Beddick Feed and Seed Store for fifteen years in Their River Falls, MN. During those years Keith held numerous roles from batching feed, trucking, sales and eventually manager. In 1987, Keith took the position of Fertilizer and Chemical Manager at Newfolden Co-op Elevator where he worked until his retirement on February 28, 2018. He enjoyed his work and time with the farmers.
Keith was honored to serve on the Marshall County Central School Board for nine years and was a member of the Lions Club of Newfolden. A member of Viking Covenant Church, Keith held various offices through the years and rejoiced in fellowship.
An avid outdoorsman, Keith was passionate about fishing and hunting. He savored moments hunting deer and grouse at home and paddling his canoe in pursuit of ducks and geese at Nelson Slough.
From the prairies to the mountains and oceans, Keith relished in the beauty of different landscapes and found great joy in photography, traveling and visiting his family.
His knowledge in agriculture cultivated a great appreciation for home gardening where he grew vegetables and flowers with his beloved wife. A steward of the lands that nourished his soul, he cared for the birds and deer during the cold winter months by stocking feed piles throughout his property.
A voracious reader, Keith enjoyed spending time engrossed in a good book.
Keith is survived by his loving wife of forty-five years, Karen Ranum; sons Jared Ranum (Lea) of Garrison, Minnesota, Craig Ranum (Erin) of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Micah Ranum (Kim) of Thousand Oaks, California; grandchildren, Logan, Madeline, Coraline, Soren, Gavin, Annika; sister, Janet (Tom) Garcia; mother-in-law Betty Swan; sisters and brothers-in-law, Tim and Mary Jo Davis, Joel and Tami Swan; several nieces, nephews and many treasured relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Vernon Swan.
