Life Threatening Injuries Reported in Itasca County Accident


A Bigfork area man was injured in a two vehicle accident yesterday in Itasca County.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, 57 year old Bernard Fredrick Schulte was injured after a semi trailer became detached from a 2016 Freightliner Semi he was driving. Authorities say that when he exited the vehicle, he was struck by an eastbound 1999 Buick Century, driven by 61 year old Michael David Yennie, of Park Rapids.

Schulte was taken to Saint Luke’s and treated for injuries officers at the scene describe as life threatening.

Highway 169 at 10th Avenue Northeast, in Grand Rapids, is listed as snow and ice covered at the time of the accident, reported just before 7AM.

According to the State Patrol report, it is unknown if alcohol played a factor in the accident.
