Scammers continue to be a nuisance in the area this year.
Officials are once again informing area residents to be vigilant when it comes to the “Grandparents Scam”, where and individual pretends to be a grandson or granddaughter and asking for money, because they were assaulted, arrested or otherwise in trouble.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office advises double checking with family members to find out if trouble is actually afoot. According to Polk County officials, thousands of dollars have been lost from that scam.
The sheriff’s office asks anyone who receives such a call, notify family members and local authorities.
