Sheldon “Shadow” Qualey, 78, of Middle River, MN, passed away Wed. morning, March 27, 2019, at his home.
Memorial services will be held at 2 P.M. Sat., April 6, 2019, at First Lutheran Church in Middle River with Pastor Bob Dahlen officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the sservices at the church.
Sheldon Wayne Qualey, the son of the late Gust and Esther (Wasley) Qualey, was born on May 25, 1940, at Middle River, MN. He attended school and grew to manhood there and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. “Shadow” graduated from Middle River High School in 1958 and went to Bemidji State University. On June 15, 1963, he married Judith Nelson at Lake Chrystal, MN., and to this marriage three children were born: Jan, Eric and Jodi. He worked for Hoover Construction and G.E. on the Iron Range. On Oct. 18, 1986, he was united in marriage to Diane Estness at Middle River and they made their home here where they had the Road House Restaurant. “Shadow” was employed at Polaris in Roseau until retirement. Music was a big part of his life. He played guitar and sang in the band “Shadow and
the Moonlighters”. He loved to hunt, camp and fish and would bring anyone out fishing. Football season he could be found in his recliner rooting for his team, “The Packers”. Shadow passed away Wed. morning, March 27, 2019, at his home in Middle
River at the age of 78 years, 10 months and 2 days.
He is survived by his wife, Diane; children: Jan (Lynn) Stenvik, Eric`, Jodi (Jalmer) Bernu, Cindy Davis, Marty Peterson, Connie Hipple, and Chris Peterson; grandchildren: Christopher (Jodi) Johnson, Joseph (Ally) Thompson, Kayla (Andrew) Landin, Lisa (Austin) Qualey, Sheldon (Krista) Qualey, Tasha (Jeff) Benton, Clint (Brianna) Berry, Matthew (Caitlin) Bernu, Anthony (Julie) Davis, Andrew Davis, Michael Peterson, Kristen Peterson, Brett Hipple, Jessica (Dave) LaRocque, Tom (Whitney) Stenvik, and Lindsey (Chris) Hennek; 30 great-grandchildren; one sister Janet (Mark) Kujava and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Richard, in infancy: four sisters: Marilyn, Kathryn, Gayle and Linda and nephews: Vincent Shambeau and Ben Demaskie.
