A state of emergency is being declared over much of Minnesota.
Governor Tim Walz’s declaration yesterday authorized the National Guard to provide emergency aid in struggling areas. Shelters opened up in many towns in the listening area. Meanwhile, Strong winds downed power poles and electrical lines across southern Minnesota, damaging the power grid in 20 counties.
We are in a Winter Weather Advisory until 1PM this afternoon. Additional snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are expected. Plan for slippery road conditions in northwest Minnesota and northeast North Dakota.
There will be an additional threat from this storm, which is the possibility of sliding off roads into flooded ditches. Authorities are urging residents to put off traveling today.
Interstate 29 is closed in North Dakota from the Canadian border to the South Dakota state line due to the storm.
A Flood Advisory is in effect until just before 3PM.
