Funeral services for Mildred “Millie” I. Hill, 88, of Middle River, will be held at 10 A. M. Mon., May 6, at First Lutheran Church in Middle River with Pastor Bob Dahlen officiating. Visitation will be after 6 P.M. Sun. at Collins Funeral Chapel in Middle River with a 7 P.M. prayer service and at the church one hour prior to services Mon. morning. Burial will be in the Finnish Cemetery near Middle River.
Mildred Irene “Millie” Hill, the daughter of the late William and Alice (Berg) Jesme, was born on Jan. 19, 1931, in Palmville Twp. In Northwest Minnesota. She attended school and grew to womanhood there and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. On Sept. 27, 1952, Millie was united in marriage to George Hill at First Lutheran Church in Middle River. Shortly thereafter, they purchased their present farm in Cedar Twp. near Middle River. She was a long-time member of First Lutheran Church. Millie was never scared of work and started early in life baby sitting right out of school and then continued in many occupations in the area. She loved to cook and bake for her family and friends and for all the patrons of the many restaurants she worked for in the area. She was well noted for her famous tasting potato salad and macaroni salad and if there was a get-together of any kind Millie had a camera…and with the guitars, banjos and mandolins in the family if there was a Kitty Wells or Patsy Kline song around Millie was singing. She also worked at the local Land O’Lakes plant in Thief River Falls, worked in the potato fields and the list goes on…..George passed away Aug. 29, 2015, and Millie was currently residing at the Royal Manor Apartments in Middle River. She passed away Wed., May 1, 2019, at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND, at the age of 88 years, 3 months and 11 days.
She is survived by her son: Roger (Mary), of Montevideo, MN; granddaughter: Michelle (Jeff) Kaercher, of Ramsey, MN; grandson: Jason (Laurie) Hill, Moorhead, MN; great-grandchildren: Benjamin, Brandon and Savanna Kaercher, and Austin and Braydon Hill; four sisters: Madelyn (Vernon) Skoglund and Francis Cwikla, both of Middle River, Marion (Howard) Conkey, of Michigan and Beverly Lambert, in Wisconsin; brother: Floyd (Janis) Jesme, of Thief River Falls; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Millie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sister: Evelyn and brothers: Duane and William, Jr.
