Norwegian Heritage Week is May 11th-May 18th and on Tuesday, May 14th you can enjoy “The Stavig Letters” at 7pm at the NCTC Auditorium. This is an Emmy Award winning performance of actual letters exchanged over 50 years between two brothers, one in America and one in Norway.
Distribution at the Thief River Falls Food Shelf is every Tuesday from 1-6pm and every Thursday from 11am-4:30pm at the Food Shelf Building, located at 16330 150th St. NE (go south on Hwy 59 past the movie theater and turn left onto Hwy 61/150th St.. it is the green building/2nd drive on the left). Celebrate Recovery is a Christ-centered recovery program that meets every Tuesday night at Epiphany Station in Thief River Falls. This program is for anyone who is dealing with life’s hurts, habits or hang-ups. The night starts at 6pm with a free meal followed by worship with a teaching or testimony; the night ends in small groups. Tri-Community Living at Home is sponsoring Senior Club and Bingo at 12:30pm on Wednesday, May 15th at the Newfolden Center. Also at the Newfolden Center is a Syttende Mai Celebration at 6pm on Friday, May 17th; come and enjoy a light supper and entertainment.
The American Legion in Middle River and Miss Moorhead 2019, O’Brien Stromsodt , are holding Burger Night on Wednesday, May 15th from 5-7:30 pm. They will also have $1 bag raffles; all proceeds will go to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
St. John’s Lutheran School is sponsoring a May Supper Fundraiser on Thursday, May 16th from 4:30-7pm at St. John Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. The Thief River Falls Christian Women’s Club/Stonecroft Ministries will sponsor a noon lunch and program on Tuesday, May 21st at the American Legion in Thief River Falls. Barb Housey, owner and operator of Poopsies, will tell you all about her boutique. Cathy Spengler will share her story and Mya Zutz from Thief River Falls will bring her musical talents. The Evangelical Covenant Church of Thief River Falls is having their Annual Group Flea Market/Rummage Sale in their parking lot on Saturday, May 18th from 8am-2pm; proceeds will go toward missions. Rental spaces are still available; for more information contact Nikki at 681-4449.
St. Bernard’s Church of Thief River Falls is having a Community Carnival on Saturday, May 18th from 5-9pm. All are welcome to the Community Mass at 5pm, with a Picnic Potluck following at 6pm. Fun and games will be enjoyed from 6-9pm, and a FREE outside movie will begin at 9:00; please bring chairs and blankets. There will also be a live auction and school presentation in the cafeteria at 9pm.
Tractor Supply in Thief River Falls is holding a Market Day on Saturday, May 18th from 8am-3pm and is looking for organizations that would like to sell their homemade items or would like to do some fundraising. They are looking for someone to cook breakfast and for someone to cook lunch to raise money for their organization. They have the option for someone to do a car wash and they can get the dunk tank if an organization would like to use it for a fund raiser. The Thief River Falls Chamber of Commerce is working on their annual flower basket program. This program will allow 51 beautiful flower baskets to be hung on the Highway 59 double lanes. The purpose of this program is to beautify the streets and add color to our community; if you would like to help, please consider sponsoring a hanging flower basket. The fee to sponsor a flower basket is $70 per basket and that fee covers the cost of the plant, a pot, hanger, brackets, cart maintenance and daily watering with fertilizer.
