Fire Danger “Very High” in Northwest Minnesota Today


Fire Danger today for much of the listening area is Very High.

According to a Pennington County Sheriff’s Department post to social media, seven counties in Northwest Minnesota are experiencing Fire Danger levels described as “Very High.”

During Very High Fire Danger conditions, fires can start very easy and spread at a very quickly. According to officials at the Thief River Falls Fire Hall, the burning permit system is shut down for the day due to low humidity and high wind.
A grass fire was reported this week near the Pembina Trail, west of Saint Hilaire. Officials in Thief River Falls say that blaze has been contained.

Last week, an house fire was reported at a residence on Wilchard Drive. An electrical issue is believed to be the cause of the blaze reported Friday, with the house described as a total loss.

A mobile home also took fire damage this week on 200th Street Northeast.

The cause of that fire is believed to have been improperly extinguished smoking materials.
