Norwegian Heritage Week is May 11th-May 18th and on Thursday, May 16th there will be an “Old Time Dance” from 7-11pm at the TRF Eagles Club; the Cathy Erickson Band will provide the music, the cost is $7.50.
Distribution at the Thief River Falls Food Shelf is every Tuesday from 1-6pm and every Thursday from 11am-4:30pm at the Food Shelf Building, located at 16330 150th St. NE (go south on Hwy 59 past the movie theater and turn left onto Hwy 61/150th St.. it is the green building/2nd drive on the left). Please bring your own boxes.
St. John’s Lutheran School is sponsoring a May Supper Fundraiser on Thursday, May 16th from 4:30-7pm at St. John Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. The menu includes grilled burgers, brats and hot dogs; this is a freewill offering fundraiser, the suggested donation is $8. For more information contact the school at 218-681-7753.
The Thief River Falls Christian Women’s Club/Stonecroft Ministries will sponsor a noon lunch and program on Tuesday, May 21st at the American Legion in Thief River Falls. Barb Housey, owner and operator of Poopsies, will tell you all about her boutique. Cathy Spengler will share her story and Mya Zutz from Thief River Falls will bring her musical talents. Tri-Community Living at Home is sponsoring a Syttende Mai Celebration at 6pm on Friday, May 17th at the Newfolden Center; come and enjoy a light supper and entertainment.
The Evangelical Covenant Church of Thief River Falls is having their Annual Group Flea Market/Rummage Sale in their parking lot on Saturday, May 18th from 8am-2pm; proceeds will go toward missions. Rental spaces are still available; for more information contact Nikki at 681-4449.
St. Bernard’s Church of Thief River Falls is having a Community Carnival on Saturday, May 18th from 5-9pm. All are welcome to the Community Mass at 5pm, with a Picnic Potluck following at 6pm. Fun and games will be enjoyed from 6-9pm, and a FREE outside movie will begin at 9:00; please bring chairs and blankets. There will also be a live auction and school presentation in the cafeteria at 9pm.
The Thief River Falls Area Community Theatre (TRFACT) is holding an additional audition for the 2019 summer season youth productions of The Jungle Book KIDS and the Music Man on Tuesday, May 21st from 3:15 -4:30 pm at the United Methodist Church in Thief River Falls. A few kids are needed to fill out the casts for both shows; 2nd thru 5th grades for The Jungle Book and 5th thru 11th grades for the Music Man. Those auditioning should be prepared to sing a song and read some dialogue. Accompanist and sheet music will be provided, or they can bring their own. The Thief River Falls Chamber of Commerce is working on their annual flower basket program that will allow 51 beautiful flower baskets to be hung on the Highway 59 double lanes. The purpose of this program is to beautify the streets and add color to our community; if you would like to help, please consider sponsoring a hanging flower basket. The fee to sponsor a flower basket is $70 per basket and that fee covers the cost of the plant, a pot, hanger, brackets, cart maintenance and daily watering with fertilizer. The Thief River Falls Community Theater is celebrating their 24th season with the first 2019 Summer Theater Production ready for your enjoyment. “Death of a Salesman” will be presented from Wednesday, May 22nd through Friday, May 24th. All performances are at 7pm at the NCTC Theater, with Flexpass and single performance tickets available at Digi-Key; tickets will be sold nightly at the door if seating is available.
The Northwest Minnesota Arts Council (NWMAC) Gallery in East Grand Forks presents a Parenthood Art Exhibit that is running through June 23rd and features pieces created by NW Minnesota artists and their children. It is currently in Warren at the Godel Memorial Library until June 28th
