Minnesota Governor Tim Walz proposes his $49 billion budget in St. Paul, Feb.19, 2019. (Scott Takushi / Pioneer Press)

Undergraduate tuition at the U-of-M’s Twin Cities campus would increase two-and-a-half percent, and one point five percent at U-M-D, Crookston, Morris and Rochester, under a budget plan from outgoing President Eric Kaler.

The proposed tuition increase is slightly higher than what Kaler was talking about earlier, but still less than the three-percent level that state lawmakers requested the University stay below. The final budget the legislature approved has only about half the increase in state funding that Kaler asked for — 43.5 million dollars. The Board of Regents will take public input and discuss the budget proposal next Friday (6/14), then vote the following Wednesday (6/19).

Governor Tim Walz has scheduled a conference call to discuss the education budget.

The press conference is scheduled to take place at 2:00pm today with Department of Education Commissioner Mary Cathryn Ricker.
