(Santo Domingo) — Former Boston Red Sox star David Ortiz is reportedly in the hospital after being shot in the Dominican Republic. The incident occurred at a club in Ortiz’s hometown of Santo Domingo. The 43-year-old was reportedly shot in the lower back and rushed to the hospital. HIs father says that Ortiz will be fine and is in stable condition resting after surgery. Nicknamed “Big Papi,” Ortiz played 20 seasons in the MLB, 14 of which were with the Boston Red Sox. He was a ten-time All-Star and won three World Series championships with the Red Sox. Ortiz played five seasons with the Minnesota Twins.
(Detroit, MI) — Nelson Cruz clubbed a two-run homer in the first inning and the Twins went on to trounce the Tigers 12-2 in Detroit. Miguel Sano, Eddie Rosario and Byron Buxton also went deep for Minnesota, which took two-of-three in the series. Jake Odorizzi tossed six innings of one-run ball with eight strikeouts as he moved to 9-and-2 with the win.
(Minneapolis, MN) — The Twins will open up a nine-game home-stand tomorrow night against the Seattle Mariners at Target Field. Kansas City and Boston will also come to town on the stand. Martin Perez will get the ball tomorrow for Minnesota opposite the M’s Mike Leake.
(St. Louis, MO) — The Stanley Cup Final is going to a Game Seven. The Boston Bruins used a four-goal third period to beat the Blues 5-1 in Game Six in St. Louis, tying up the best-of-seven set at three games apiece. Boston will host the decisive Game Seven on Wednesday.
(Eagan, MN) — The Vikings are back on the practice field tomorrow for the start of a three-day, mandatory mini-camp. The camp will run through Thursday, and be the final workouts ahead of training camp next month. The Vikes start preseason play August 9th at the Saints.
(Minneapolis, MN) — The Lynx are off the hardwood for a few more days before hitting the road. Minnesota will visit the New York Liberty on Wednesday. The Lynx fell to 4-and-2 on the season with Saturday’s 89-85 home loss to the LA Sparks.
