Several children were injured in a 3 vehicle accident involving a school bus yesterday in Itasca County.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 1997 Ford Pickup Truck, driven by Shawn Gregorie Mcdowell, 49, of Grand Rapids, turned west to County Road 17, with the driver then deciding not to turn and returned to the southbound lane of Highway 169 in Harris Township. The vehicle then struck a school bus containing 32 children and two adults. The Ford came to rest after striking a 2004 Dodge Ram Pickup Truck, driven by Tammy Jo Rabey, 49, of Hill City.

5 children were transported to Grand Itasca Hospital and treated for injuries troopers at the scene describe as non-life threatening. Mcdowell, Rabey and the bus driver, James Roger Hagen, 71, of Coleraine, suffered no apparent injury. Road conditions were listed as dry at the time of the accident, reported just after noon.

Official say alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
