More than a dozen workers at the CHS facility near Thief River Falls are expecting they’ll be laid off as the company works to move all of its sunflower processing operations to one location in North Dakota.
Officials with CHS say, while warehouse and storage facilities will remain at the site, in nearby Hazel, all processing will be moved to Grandin, North Dakota.
CHS has issued the following statement on the closure: “Following a thorough review of market trends, CHS will consolidate sunflower processing operations to a single location at Grandin, N.D. Effective July 12, the facility at Hazel, will cease processing operations, and that location will serve as a warehouse and storage facility. 13 employee positions will be eliminated as part of the consolidation. Eligible employees at the Hazel facility are being offered separation benefits.”
Plant employees say they received the news in a surprise meeting Wednesday night.
