Governor Tim Walz yesterday announced he will have surgery on his left knee for a meniscus tear.
The Governor will temporarily transfer power to the Lieutenant Governor while he is under general anesthetic for the procedure.
Per state statute, the governor sent a letter to House Speaker Melissa Hortman and President of the Senate Jeremy Miller, declaring the upcoming transfer of power, which is set to start at 12:30 pm on Thursday. The transfer will be in effect until he sends the legislative leaders a written declaration that he is again able to discharge his duties.
Governor Walz called it a minor surgery. He hopes he “can hit the pavement again soon.”
The Governor is expected to have the same procedure performed on his right knee sometime in the near future.
