Ferne Bruggeman, 86, of Thief River Falls, MN passed away peacefully and suddenly on Sunday, July 28, 2019 at Sanford Hospital in Thief River Falls, MN.

The funeral service to celebrate Ferne’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 2, 2019 at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. John Golv and Rev. Ale Tulu officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service on Thursday, August 1, 2019 at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Ferne Marjorie Jarshaw was born April 21, 1933 on the family farm near Newfolden, MN the daughter of Fred and Tilla (Langlie) Jarshaw. She was baptized and confirmed at Rindal Lutheran Church, New Solum Township, Marshall County, MN. She attended Busy Bee Country School and graduated from Newfolden High School.

In January of 1952 Ferne was united in marriage to LeRoy Francis Bruggeman in Thief River Falls. The couple made their home in the Thief River Falls area and to this union seven children were born, Debra, Reginal, Randall, Bonita, Timmy, Robert and Cynthia.

Ferne’s work included cooking at the American Legion for 33 years, service parts at Arctic Cat for 9 years, and throughout the years continued to own & operate her catering business, Bruggeman Catering.

She loved family gatherings, bowling, playing bingo, traveling to Las Vegas with her daughters, flower gardening & her yard, was known to have an impressive frog collection and loved to sit on the deck and watch people drive by and honk their horn. Ferne loved to serve her family and friends with her wonderful cooking and she always loved to visit. She will be dearly missed by her family and community.

Ferne was saved by the only defibrillator in an emergency responding vehicle in 2001. In her gratitude, she held a benefit to raise money to have a defibrillator placed in all emergency vehicles in Thief River Falls.

Ferne was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 117, and life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2793.

Survivors include children Debra “Slim” Bruggeman, Randy (Georgi) Bruggeman, Bobby Bruggeman, Cindy Bruggeman; daughter-in-law, Tracee Bruggeman; son-in-law, Mike Thygeson; grandchildren, Kelly (Brent) Flaten, Lisa (Jamie) Vait, John Bruggeman, Brandon (Julie) Bruggeman, Josh Gerardy, Tim (Joy) Aaseby, Terry (Michelle) Aaseby, Courtney Bruggeman, Cassidy Bruggeman, Nick Bruggeman; several great-grandchildren; and one great greatgrandchild; sister, Irene Holmstrom; sisters-in-law, Genevieve Jarshaw, Kathy Jarshaw; and many other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband; sons, Timmy and Reggie; daughter, Bonnie; parents; siblings, Pearl Boe, Elmer Jarshaw, Sam Jarshaw, Maynard Jarshaw, Irvin Jarshaw, James Jarshaw and Florence Lykken.
