Eldon Ness, 82, of Holt, MN passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at Karlstad Senior Living in Karlstad, MN.
Funeral service to celebrate Eldon’s life will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, August 23, 2019 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. Cathie Rhodes officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Holt Cemetery.
Eldon Neil Ness was born on February 25, 1937 at home in Holt, MN the son of Myrtle Olivia Ness and was raised by his grandparents, Nels Nelson Ness and Elizabeth Anna (Ellingson) Ness. He attended school in Holt and graduated from Newfolden High School.
Eldon entered into service with the United States Navy and served as a Boiler Operator on the USS Coral Sea. He was stationed in Japan, Hawaii and was Honorably Discharged. Through his brother, Richard, Eldon was introduced to his pen pal, Carol Ann Geibe who later became his wife and mother of his children.
At Highview Christiana Lutheran Church in Lakeville, MN in June of 1961, Eldon and Carol were married and to this union two children were born, Barbara and James. They made their home in Elko, MN where Eldon worked at Thermo King for over 30 years. After retiring, Eldon moved to the area he came from. He worked at Marvin Windows and Arctic Cat as well as breaking up his land on the family farm.
He liked dancing, drinking White & Black Russians and Boones Farm Wine, flirting with pretty girls, playing cards, deer hunting, flower gardening, spending time in the outdoors, working with his horses and in his younger years liked to party. Eldon loved to talk, tell stories and make people laugh.
Eldon was a member of the Eagle’s Club in Bloomington and American Legion Post in Middle River.
Survivors include his children, Barbara (Todd) Swenson of Newfolden, MN, James (Rhonda Skadsem) Ness of Holt, MN; grandchildren, Melody (Kory) Conway of Newfolden, Beka Winter of Newfolden, Ian (Gretchen) Winter of Newfolden, Alex Ness of West Bend, WI and James Ness II of Grand Forks, ND, and also Elissa, Mindy, Sheena and Ashley; great-grandchildren, Logan, Lydia and Baby Conway; long-time companion, Ginger Kranitz; siblings, Richard (Kris) Silverness, Glenn Silverness, George (Donna) Silverness and Marie (Dale) Jacobs; and many other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Myrtle Olivia Ness; grandparents; sister, June Silverness; sister-in-law, Carol Silverness.
