County Considers Purchase of Wetland Credits Ahead of Westside Flood Damage Reduction Project

The Pennington County Board of Commissioners approved delineation for the Westside Flood Damage Reduction Project last week in Thief River Falls.

Soil and Water Conservation District Manager Bryan Malone says the wetlands in the outlet area of the project will need to be replaced, and says the new ditch section will also impact wetlands. He says 2.98 acres of wetland need to be replaced for the project to be completed. Construction is scheduled to begin this fall.

County Commissioners say they will “do the math” before proceeding with purchasing wetland credits. They are expected to continue discussion at a future meeting.

The next County Board meeting is scheduled for September 10thm 10 a.m., at the Justice Center in downtown Thief River Falls.
