Stanley “Sandy” Wilson, Jr., of Thief River Falls, MN passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2019 at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND.
The memorial service to celebrate Sandy’s life will be held at 1:00PM on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. John Voelker officiating. A gathering after the service will be held at Sandy’s home.
Stanley “Sandy” Gordon Wilson, Jr. was born on August 31, 1942 in Thief River Falls, MN, the beloved son of Stanley Gordon Wilson Sr. and Myrtle (Roisland) Wilson. He graduated from Lincoln High School of Thief River Falls in 1960. He was an alumnus of the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, ND and graduated from the University of Texas in Austin, TX.
Sandy was married to Joan Mary Olson, to which their union brought Natalie and Stan III. Sandy was then married to Gloria Elizabeth Taylor, to which Jessica was born. Sandy was also a proud stepfather to Derek Fessler. His children were his pride and joy. The last 26 years were spent with his love, Linda Goulet. Together they spent their winter months in Port Isabel, Texas, where they enjoyed watching dolphins from their deck, enjoying fresh seafood, and spending time with their close friends.
A patient teacher to his grandchildren, he took the time to educate them on the fundamentals of shooting a gun properly, grilling the perfect steak, and playing dominos. He could also be counted on for Dilly Bars from the Dairy Queen and trips to their “secret park” in his convertible. A dear friend to many, he will be missed for his wicked sense of humor, great conversation, and his wonderful laugh. He was an outstanding cook and could improvise masterfully with found ingredients. His culinary specialties included jerk chicken, ribs, and amazing soups. He had recipes, but no one can recall him actually sticking to them. He was an avid reader, well-versed in a wide range of subjects, and loved to engage in healthy debate.
Sandy was a successful businessman and owned and operated Wilson Brothers Company and Northwest Power Systems. He had businesses in Thief River Falls, Roseau, Red Lake Falls, and Mahnomen.
An avid bird and deer hunter, his passion took him to South America and Mexico on many hunting excursions with his father and friends. Much of his time was spent at his farm, Stony Acres, hunting, riding the trails, watching wildlife, and enjoying family and friends. Sandy was a champion trap and sporting clays shooter who competed on the national level and won two Minnesota state titles in doubles and singles.
Sandy is survived by his love, Linda Goulet, Thief River Falls, MN; children, Natalie Obee, St. Paul, MN; Stan (Christina) Wilson III, Lampasas, TX; Jessica (Shawn) Johnson, Thief River Falls, MN; Derek (Kathy) Fessler, Denver, CO; Nikki (Albert) Jordan, Apple Valley, MN; Angelique Goulet, Moorhead, MN; and Danielle Goulet, Annandale, MN; grandchildren, Vivien and Jack Obee; Paulina, Colt, Mia, and Lily Wilson; Donovan, Xander, and Lorelei Fessler; Jack & Sophie Newcomb, Elliot, Jonah and Charlie Peterson; and Gabriel and Noah Jordan.
Heartfelt thanks to the exceptional nurses at Sanford Health who provided compassionate care as well as a peaceful environment during his transition from this life to the next.
He was preceded in death by his parents and Gloria Wilson.
