Barbara Jeanne (Hanson) Bring was born on August 6, 1935 in Middle River, MN, the daughter of Hjalmer and Mildred (Kalishko) Hanson. She was baptized on January 9, 1936. Barbara attended school in Middle River and Gatzke.
In her teens she worked at a nursing home in Middle River and also helped take care of her siblings. At the age of 18 she moved to St. Paul, MN, where she worked until she met her husband.
On April 19, 1958 Barbara was united in marriage to Gordon Bring in Middle River. They made their home in Newfolden, MN, on the Bring family farm and raised four children: John, Roger, Karyl, and Karl. Together they raised dairy cattle and small grain.
Barbara also worked with the potato harvest, worked as a custodian at the Newfolden School and the Newfolden elevator. Throughout her lifetime she took care of many various family members. Barbara cared deeply for her family; they meant the world to her.
Barbara was an active member of Bethania Lutheran Church, always willing to help in any capacity that was needed, whether it was mowing the church yard, serving in the kitchen, or cooking for events and baking for the bake sales. Her angel food cakes were always sought after. When Bethania stopped having regular services, Barbara and Gordon continued attending and serving at Westaker Lutheran Church.
Barbara enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting, embroidery, Artex painting, gardening, cooking, and baking. She was well known for her potato dumplings, beef stew with biscuits, chicken dumpling soup, and cinnamon rolls. Barbara loved spending time with friends and family, visiting, playing cards and board games. She had a very competitive spirit – she was in it to win it!
In her later years she and Gordon moved into Newfolden and became active in the senior citizen group where Barbara was known for her embroidered dishtowels that were sold at the Newfolden Community Center. In 2006 Barbara and Gordon were named Outstanding Senior Citizens and represented Newfolden at the Marshall County Fair.
