Deacon John Eisbrener, 92, of Trail, MN passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 05, 2019 at his residence with his loving family at his side.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:30 PM on Friday, November 8, 2019 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Bishop Michael J. Hoeppner, presider. Burial will be at St. Bernard’s Catholic Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will be 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls and also one hour prior to the service on Friday at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church. Military honors will be provided by the Ecklund-Holmstrom American Legion Post 117, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2793 and United States Navy Honor Guard.
Deacon John Michael Eisbrener was born March 30, 1927 on the farm at Trail, MN to John and Agnes (Serocki) Eisbrener. John was baptized into the Catholic faith at St. Gertrudes Catholic Church, Rhoda, MN. He was confirmed by Bishop J. Peschges, Crookston Diocese at Rhoda. He graduated from Lincoln High School, Thief River Falls in 1944 and attended Thief River Falls Teacher Training finishing the spring of 1945.
John joined the United States Navy in 1945 and served aboard the Battle Ship New Jersey during the occupation of Japan. He was discharged July 12, 1946.
The school year 1946-1947, he taught Oak Park School from 1947-48, he then taught at Solberg School and 1948-49, he taught Little Oak School all in Pennington County. The summer of 1949, he worked for Al Johnson Construction Company as bookkeeper while they were dredging the Red Lake River. In the fall of 1949, John entered Bemidji State Teacher’s College in Bemidji.
He was united in marriage to Darlene Marlys Hruby, June 9, 1951. John received his Bachelor’s Degree in November of 1951 and began teaching 6th grade in the Old Washington School, Thief River Falls, in December 1951. In July 1953, John was appointed Elementary Principal of Washington School. He received his Master of Education Degree, from University of North Dakota, Grand Forks in August of 1956. John was active in the Junior Chamber of Commerce, serving as Treasure, Secretary and President. He was also active in the American Legion, being elected Commander in 1962. In the summer of 1963, John moved his family to Plainview, MN, where he accepted the position of Elementary Principal. In the summer of 1966, the family moved again, this time to Inver Grove Heights, MN where John accepted the position of Director of Elementary Education. While in Inver Grove Heights, John was instrumental in getting a charter for a new American Legion Post. He served as Post Commander for 2 years and post adjutant for 6 years. During this time he also served as Department Oratorical Chairman for 4 years.
John retired in 1981 after 33 years in education. After retiring, he tried hobby farming for a couple of years, drove a mail route out of Goodridge, MN, a courier route for Northern State Bank and worked for the Agriculture Department as a bin inspector. In 1993, John entered a program for deacon formation for the Catholic Church and was ordained a Deacon on June 30, 1996. The Bishop assigned John to St. Bernard’s Church, Thief River Falls. In the fall of 1998, the Bishop re-assigned John to the parishes of St. Ann’s in Blackduck, MN, St. Patrick and St. Michael’s in Northome as Pastoral Administrator. In 2001, he submitted his resignation to full time ministry and was re-assigned back to St. Bernard’s in Thief River Falls, where he remained until his demise.
John is survived by his wife Darlene of more than 60 years, 6 children and their spouses: Michael (Clara) Eisbrener, Medellin, Columbia, Virginia (Steve) Royse, Mason City, IA, JoAnn Foust, Nebraska City, NE, Mary Jo Derusha, South St. Paul, MN, Fred (Terri) Eisbrener, Trail, MN and Jeff (Lori) Eisbrener, Newton, IA; grandchildren: John (Alicia) Eisbrener, Madison, WI, Camilo Giraldo, Medellin, Columbia, Brian (Jessica) Royse, Mason City, IA, Dean (Melody) Royse, Minneapolis, MN, Ben Foust, Nebraska City, NE, Jonathan (Sarah) Hruby, North Las Vegas, NV, Darla Hruby, Albuquerque, NM, Colton Noble, Laramie, WY, Emily (George) Weatherall, San Antonio, TX, Ellen (Sean) Derusha, South St. Paul, MN, Elaine (Jared) Erickson, Eagan, MN, Evan (Maria) Peters, Woodbury, MN, Matt (Jenny) Eisbrener, Morresville, NC, Michael (Pam) Eisbrener, St. Petersburg, FL, Katherine (Rob) Evans, Clive, IA, Ryan Constant, Newton, IA and Dillon Constant, Newton, IA; great grandchildren: Melanie Eisbrener, Nathan Eisbrener, Zackary Royse, Bryson Royse, Lincoln Royse, Walter Royse, Xavier Foust, Isabel Foust, Ashland Hruby, Kendall Hruby, Brianna Chevez, McKenzie & Carly Erickson, Olive & Quinn Weatherall, Nora Evans, Elle & Cole Peters, Grayson & Gavyn Foust, Henry Eisbrener; great-great grandson, Quentin Foust. He is also survived by a sister, Agnes (Marv) Halverson and sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Rita Schultz, brother, Raymond Eisbrener and brother-in-law Matt Schultz.
